According to the Official Website of the British Monarchy, “The only British monarch of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was King Edward VII, who reigned for nine years at the beginning of the modern age in the early years of the twentieth century.” King Edward VII was the son of Queen Victoria. The name Saxe-Coburg and Gotha came into the British Royal Family via Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-and Gotha. King George V succeeded his father King Edward VII and was initially a member of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. In 1917, King George V changed the name to Windsor because of anti-German sentiment during World War I. See Unofficial Royalty: July 17, 1917: The Birth of the House of Windsor
See the House of Windsor Index for articles about King George V and his family.
