There are two burial sites for the Princely family of Schaumburg-Lippe. The first is the Princely Mausoleum at the St. Martini Church in Stadthagen (links in German). The Mausoleum dates back to the early 1600s, when Prince Ernst of Schaumburg made Bückeburg his official residence. Constructing was finished after his death in 1622. The remains of several members of Ernst’s family were moved there, and the Mausoleum remained the burial site of the House of Schaumburg and then Schaumburg-Lippe until 1915 when the Mausoleum at Schloss Bückeburg was built.

The Bückeburg Mausoleum (link in German) was constructed between 1911 and 1915 in the park surrounding Schloss Bückeburg (link in German). Adolf II, the last reigning Prince, had the mausoleum built following the death of his father, Georg.
